The Sheriff of Mars is a character Daniel’s been drawing from kindergarten until today: a Sheriff who came down from Mars to Earth with the express mission of making everyone happy. Daniel has no idea why he started drawing it. Later he wrote a song about it which we will release sometime soon.

Our Sheriff of Mars Merchandise is based on a Sheriff originally drawn for Townes Van Zandt in 1972, then regifted to journalist Bill Hedgepeth whose house Daniel and Townes were crashing at. This was on the same road trip when the famous “photo” was taken on Guy & Susanna Clark’s porch by photographer Al Clayton. (See the original images below the merchandise).

Notice that Daniel signed his name backwards on it – “Leinad Ykslopotna” – which he finds funny.
